Discussion

This was a small, rectangular spit, excavated in order to define the extent of a worn pebble surface (012AD06058). The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3). No daub or charcoal flecking was noted. Also defined were the south-eastern section of post hole line 012AD07082 and the short slot 012AD06148. All of the finds were late Roman pot sherds. A dump of redeposited natural (012AD06267, initially thought to be a mortar deposit) was uncovered by the removal of this material, but further cleaning around this deposit did not further define it.
